New Delhi, Feb. 23 (PTI): Eid-Ul-Zuha, symbolising the spirit of sacrifice, was celebrated today in various parts of the country with religious piety and traditional fervour.

In the capital, the main prayer was held at the historic Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri Masjid.

Dressed in their colourful bests, devotees including women and children, chanted verses from the holy Quran at the congregations and exchanged greetings.

A Srinagar report said Muslims in large numbers thronged different mosques and shrines in bright sunshine to offer special Eid prayers.

About 25,000 devotees offered namaz at the holy shrine of Hazratbal, on the outskirts of Srinagar, which houses the holy relic of Prophet Mohammad.

In Uttar Pradesh, Muslims offered special prayers at the Aishbagh Idgah, Asifi mosque and other mosques besides offering traditional Quarbani of goats and sheep. They also exchanged greetings with their Hindu brethren.

Reports of Eid celebrations have come from other parts of the country including Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
