KOCHI, FEB 23. Keeping its cool under pressure, India pulled off a sensational 3-2 victory over a strong England and marched to the semifinals (knockout stage) of the Thomas Cup badminton qualifiers in Eindhoven on Friday night. India, which topped the four-team Group `Z' with an all-win record, will meet Germany while Denmark plays Sweden in the men's semifinals. The results: Men's league, Group Z: Abhinn Shyam Gupta bt Mark Constable 7-5, 6-8, 8-7, 0-7, 7-4; Sanave Thomas/V.Diju lost to Nathan Robertson/Anthony Clark 6-8, 1-7, 5- 7; Chetan Anand bt Andrew South 1-7, 4-7, 7-3, 7-3, 7-4; Jaseel P.Ismail/Arvind Bhatt lost to Julian Robertson/Ian Sullivan 7-4, 5-7, 5-7, 7-5, 2-7; Nikhil Kanetkar bt Michael Edge 7-2, 7-3, 7- 1). Russia bt Poland 3-2. Final placings, Group Z (four-team league): 1. India (three wins), 2. England (2 wins), 3. Russia (1 win), 4. Poland. Women's league, Group Z: India bt Bulgaria 3-2 (Aparna Popat lost to Petya Nedeltcheva 3-7, 3-7, 1- 7; Trupti Murgunde bt Neli Boteva 7-4, 7-3, 7-5; P. V. V.
