BOXING: EAST RUTHERFORD (New Jersey): The International Boxing Federation has approved a request by heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis to fight ex-champ Mike Tyson in his next fight. Lewis needed permission from the IBF to fight Tyson instead of Chris Byrd, the IBF's No. 1 contender. Byrd's bid to block a Lewis-Tyson fight was denied by Chief United States District Court Judge John Bissell. As part of its ruling, the IBF said winner of the Lewis- Tyson fight must next face Byrd in a title defence no later than December 8.

FOOTBALL: MONZA (Italy): Twice World player of the year, Ronaldo is still recovering from his latest injury back home in Rio, but his wife is close to making her own return to action. Former model Milene Domingues (picture) began training with her new Italian Serie `A' women's team, Fiamma Monza, this week and says she is raring to return to the field after having been out of the game for four years. ``Since I arrived in Italy two years ago I wanted to play soccer again. I used to play back in Brazil, soccer is a passion for me, not a job,'' Domingues told Reuters television in an interview. ``But first I was pregnant then (my son) Ronald was a baby... Now, he's grown up a bit. Ronnie (Ronaldo) told me I should play soccer again,'' added Domingues, who showed an impressive array of skills during her first training session with the club, which is currently fifth in Italy's top division.

BRASILIA: Veteran striker Romario should play for Brazil at the World Cup, according to 61 per cent of those fans interviewed for a survey released here. Romario's inclusion in Brazil's squad for Korea and Japan has received backing from the top, with Brazil President Fernando Cardoso saying on this week's European tour that he was in favour of Manager Felipe Scolari playing the 37-year-old player. Last week Scolari confirmed that he intended to include the injury- plagued Ronaldo in his 2002 World Cup squad, but he was less certain about what to do with Romario. ``I'm not sure I'll be taking Romario to the World Cup because it's my responsibility to take the best players,'' he said.

GOLF: NEW YORK: Tiger Woods, who has fully recovered from a bout of flu followed by a cold in successive weeks, hopes to hit the ground running at this week's Genuity championship beginning on Thursday. The World No. 1 lost to 64th- seeded Peter O'Malley of Australia in the first round of last week's World Match Play and is now determined to kickstart his season with the year's first major - the U.S. Masters - less than six weeks away. ``The good news is that I'm finally healthy and rested,'' the Masters champion said on his official Website.
