Rafiq dazzles

KOLKATA, FEB. 27. Continuing the local dominance, Rafiq Ali carded seven-under 65 to break into the lead with a cumulative of 137 in the second round of the Royal Challenge Grand Prix golf here at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club on Wednesday. Turning out nine birdies in his outstanding performance, Rafiq matched the season's record set earlier by Mukesh Kumar and Vivek Bhandari in MCG-Hyundai Open in Chennai and Noida Open respectively.

Vijay Kumar added a one-under 71 to his first round card of two-under 70 to remain at the second spot. Sitting at the third place is Digvijay Singh who brought in a a par round of 72 to go with his first round two-under 70.

The scores: 137 - Rafiq Ali (72, 65); 141 - Vijay Kumar (70, 71); 142 - Digvijay Singh (70, 72); 143 - Rahul Ganapathy (73, 70); 144 - Rahil Gangjee (74, 70); 145 - Vinod Kumar (73, 72), Shiv Prakash (70, 75), Rohtas Singh (76, 69), Yusuf Ali (71, 74), Raju Ali (69, 76); 146 - Feroz Ali (78, 68), K.P.S. Sekhon (76, 70), S.S.P. Chowrasia (75, 71), Babu Ahmed (78, 68); 147 - Ali Sher (74, 73), Mohammad Maqbool (73, 74).

Amateurs: 160 - Varun Sahay (82, 78); 165 - Ajay Singh (84, 81); 169 - Karan Sidhu (85, 84).
