Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam president, N. Chandrababu Naidu, has described the Congress (I) as the biggest stumbling block to development and progress. "They have a single-point agenda of blocking any well-intentioned move initiated by the Government. They do not want development, because they thrive on ignorance and poverty," he said while winding up a 4-day training camp for party functionaries from Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts here on Thursday. Defending power sect r policies and decisions, the Chief Minister said the Congress, during whose tenure power tariff was hiked thrice, did not have the right to fault his Government. The reversible pumped storage power scheme at Srisailam, taken up during the Congress rule, was uneconomical. It cost Re. 1 to produce a unit, but Rs. 1.33 to pump the water back. He could not abandon the project as over Rs 1,000 crores was already invested. He called upon party functionaries to counter Congress criticism and keep the people apprised of facts.
