Statistical highlights of day one
By Mohandas Menon

** This is Anil Kumble's first Test at this venue after his all-10 haul against Pakistan in February 1999. Kumble did not play against Zimbabwe at this venue in November 2000 due to injuries. Interestingly it took him 22.2 overs to take his next wicket (Heath Streak) after his historic feat against Pakistan.

** Zimbabwe in successive matches at this venue, has lost a wicket without a run on the board on the opening day to Javagal Srinath. Stuart Carlisle, dismissed off the fourth ball of the match in this game, emulated Grant Flower, who was dismissed in the fifth over of the day by Srinath at this very ground on November 18, 2000.

** Carlisle's duck was the fifth of his career in 27 matches and second while leading the side. Andy Flower and Alistair Campbell are the other Zimbabwean captains to register a duck. However Carlisle becomes the first to do so on two occasions. His first came in the second innings against Bangladesh at Dhaka last November.

** Andy Flower's 92 is his first score in the nineties in Tests. His previous highest double figure score was 86 made against Sri Lanka at Bulawayo in November 1999.

** Andy now has an aggregate of 522 runs at this venue in three matches. Only Dilip Vengsarkar (671 in eight) and Sunil Gavaskar (668 in 9) have scored more at the Kotla.

** The only other score in the nineties by a Zimbabwean against India was 96 by Grant Flower at this venue in March 1993.

** Streak's wicket was Kumble's 32nd at this venue in four matches equaling the venue record for most wickets held by Kapil Dev. Kapil achieved this in nine matches.

** Dion Ebrahim (82 not out), playing in his 12th match, bettered his previous bests of 71 achieved by him on three occasions - against West Indies at Bulwayo in July 2001, and against South Africa at Harare and Bulawayo respectively in September 2001.
