He told presspersons that Mr. Pawar had promised to oblige the State, and hoped that Maharashtra would release at least 2,000 cusecs of water. No purpose would be served if it released only 300 to 400 cusecs, which would not reach the affected areas. The irrigation secretaries of the two States had met twice yesterday and today, he said. Mr. Patil said Karnataka was to get its share of four tmcft. of water from the Doodhganga, and this had been kept in mind while making a request to release water. Asked what would be the response of the State to the case presented by Tamil Nadu before the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, the minister said the State's counsel, F.S. Nariman, would formulate it and present it before the tribunal.
