Bid to torch mosque in Haryana

CHANDIGARH, MARCH 1. The Haryana Government has alerted police all over the State following alleged attempts by a mob to torch a mosque in Kaithal.

The Haryana Director-General of Police, M.S.Malik, said the law and order situation in the State was under control.

There were minor incidents in Kaithal where a mob had gathered, but timely action by police prevented any untoward situation.

Informed sources said that the mob had first pelted stones and later tried to set the religious place on fire.

Mr.Malik said that an Inspector was injured. The Inspector General of Police, Ambala Range, Alok Joshi, reached Kaithal to keep a watch on the situation.

The VHP bandh evoked mixed response in Haryana.
