Minorities panel calls for unity
By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MARCH 1. The National Commission for Minorities has expressed shock and distress over the recent incidents in the country and appealed to all the communities to stand together to prevent divisive forces from attempting to fragment the country and spoil its secular image. The meeting, presided over by the Commission's Chairman, Justice Mohammed Shamim, said ``we have taken pride in our secular credentials and we have been internationally recognised as an example of peaceful co-existence''.

``We cannot allow the concept of `unity in diversity' and `vasudeva kutumbakam' to be driven out by such (divisive) forces. Let us all take a pledge that we will foil any and every attempt made to destablise and destroy the very concept of what our country has stood for since times immemorial,'' the appeal said.
