Award for Mattigatti

SHIMOGA MARCH 2. The Puttaraj Samman 2002 instituted in memory of the renowned Hindustani vocalist, Puttaraj Gavai, will be conferred on the veteran Hindustani vocalist, Panchakshariswamy Mattigatti, here on Sunday.

Siddalinga Swamiji of Tontadarya Math, Gadag, Rajayogindra Swamiji, Moorusavira Math, Hubli, and Mallikarjun Murugharajendra Swamiji of Bekkinakal Math, Shimoga, will attend the function.

Pandit Mattigatti (75) is the fourth recipient of the Puttaraj Samman.

The others are Lakshman Pandit of Delhi, Mrityunjaya Buva Puranikmath of Belgaum, and Dinkar Kaikini of Mumbai.

Pandit Mattigatti, who served as music teacher at Karnatak University from 1976 to 1987, has received many awards.
