Police arrest VHP cadre in Mumbai

By Our Special Correspondent

MUMBAI MARCH 2. Police arrested 131 activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad — who wanted to board the Ayodhya-bound Pushpak Express — at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) today. The VHP, however, maintained that its `Ram sevaks' had boarded the train from Dadar.

According to its president of the Mumbai unit, Ramesh Mehta, the VHP had organised a demonstration at the CST to mislead police and they had picked up the slogan-shouting activists.

But 500 Ayodhya-bound VHP activists, who did not sport saffron head-bands, had quietly boarded the train at Dadar like other passengers, he said.

Tight security arrangement was made in and around CST and sniffer dogs were deployed to check for explosives.
