TIRUCHI MARCH.2. The Indian Red Cross Society has planned to form an emergency volunteer forum, and a rapid relief unit for fire victims in each district. The members of the forum would be drawn from engineers, doctors, students, plumbers, transport operators, para-medical staff, etc. who would assemble at short notice and move to the spot of accident or disaster, to provide relief. Delivering the valedictory address at a two-day State meet of district secretaries of the Tamil Nadu Red Cross Society. Bargavi Devendra, said the qualities of humanism and quick decision-making should be instilled in the minds of youth and students. The State president of the Indian Red Cross Society, Sarojini Varadappan, said the aim of the fire units was to visit victims and arrange for immediate relief. Red Cross volunteers could popularise an awareness of the evil of drinking in villages, as the public were often reluctant to cooperate with the police and authorities to end illicit brewing , said M. Jayapal, principal district judge, Tiruchi.
