Tendulkar, Srinath rested

NEW DELHI, MARCH 2. India will be without Sachin Tendulkar in the first three one-day internationals, of the five-match series against the visiting Zimbabwe starting in Faridabad on March 7.

Tendulkar has been suffering from a minor knee problem since the England series and has asked the Cricket Board some time to recoup. The Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Mr. Niranjan Shah, said that while Tendulkar's knee problem was not serious ``it was necessary to give him qualitative rest from cricket.''

``He (Tendulkar) will be available for the tour to West Indies,'' Mr. Shah said in a statement.

Also, Javagal Srinath has been rested on the fast bowler's request. Srinath has asked the BCCI Selection Committee not to consider him for the entire one-day international series.

Of the last one-day India played, against England in Mumbai, Hemang Badani has been left out. Coming in were V.V.S. Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Tinu Yohanan.

India A: Dinesh Mongia (captain), Jacob Martin (vice-captain), Gautam Gambhir, Amit Pagnis, Abhijit Kale, Venugopal Rao, Rohan Gavaskar, Mohammed Kaif, Parthiv Patel, L. Balaji, Rakesh Patel, Amit Bhandari, Amit Mishra, Murali Kartik, Debashish Mohanty.
