Ex-servicemen plea to Govt.

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY MARCH 3. The Coordination Committee of the Ex-Servicemen has urged the Pondicherry Government to ensure that the Second World War veterans or widows of the ex- servicemen are not deprived of pension given through the Social Welfare Department, whenever the welfare assistance is sanctioned through the Sainik Welfare Department.

The resolution was adopted at the general body meeting here today.

The meeting expressed concern at the Sainik Welfare Department's move to pressure the Government to stop old-age pension given through the Social Welfare Department, when benefits were sought to be given to the targetted groups.

Seniority should be given importance whenever ex-servicemen were sponsored by the Sainik Welfare Department for government jobs.

The meeting also urged that authorities raise the monthly assistance from Rs.750 to Rs. 1,500 to the Second World War veterans or the widows of ex-servicemen.

Another resolution wanted the applications submitted to the Transport Department, seeking permits for mini-bus routes be cleared without any delay. It was more than a year since the applications were presented.
