JAMMU, MARCH 3. A National Conference MLA, Gul Rafiqui, escaped an attempt on his life while his personal security officer, Gulam Nabi, was shot dead by militants in Anantnag district today. The Homshalibugh MLA was on a visit to Yaripora in Kulgam tehsil, when the militants opened fire. Mr. Nabi was killed instantly, while Mr. Rafiqui managed to flee the spot. Officials said the MLA had not informed the police about his visit.
