NEW DELHI, MARCH 3. The CPI(M) today extended total support to the ongoing strike by the Kerala State Government employees. While condemning the use of Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) by the Antony Government against them, the party demanded that the Chief Minister hold talks with the employees organisations for resolving the dispute and end the use of ``repressive measures'' such as ESMA. The CPI(M) Central Committee which met here said in a statement that the strike, now on for 26 days, was a significant protest against the new round of attack against the Government employees which have been initiated by the Central Government as the ``second generation of economic reforms'' which was being pursued by the Kerala Government. The Committee said that so far 400 employees have been arrested and jailed under ESMA and that the Chief Minister has refused to conduct negotiations with the striking employees. It also noted the widespread support for the strike including the call of the trade unions for a general strike in the State on March 5 and appealed to all democratic organisations and parties to extend full support to this struggle.
