THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 5. The CPI State secretary, Veliyam Bhargavan, has termed the general strike today a major success and greeted the workers who made it so. In a statement here today, Mr. Bhargavan said the success of the general strike indicated the people's protest against the `arrogant and undemocratic' attitude of the Government towards the employees' strike. He said the declaration of a holiday today amounted admission to defeat by the Government, but noted that the Government had also taken other measures such as large-scale preventive arrests of trade union activists to break the strike. In a separate statement, the Kerala Electricity Workers' Federation (KEWF) working president, A. N. Rajan, said the strike was total in the KSEB. He said officers and employees joined the strike disregarding propoaganda to the effect that they would lose a week's pay if they took part in the strike.
