Letters to the Editor
Sir, In a democracy the judiciary has got to be respected by everyone, whether the decisions are palatable or not But Arundhati Roy has not shown any remorse and insisted on a wrong notion of freedom of expression. There is a limit to freedom of expression. Probably she used words thinking that she was writing theory on the subject instead of realising that she was replying to a contempt notice. Even when given a chance to explain, if one continues to defy the court deliberately, such a person deserves punishment without any mercy, irrespective of the fact that he or she is an extraordinary citizen or winner of the Booker Prize.
