NEW DELHI, MARCH 8. The Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, has urged political parties to consider the suggestion made by the Election Commission to give 33 per cent tickets to women during polls. The issue came up during zero hour in the Lok Sabha as almost all the women members favoured passing of the Bill. Mr. Vajpayee said the BJP was for the Bill but some parties in the Opposition were not. His assertion was immediately challenged by Priyaranjan Dasmunshi(Congress) and Basudeb Acharya (CPI-M) who challenged him to introduce the Bill and promised to support its passage. It was then that he suggested that parties consider the Election Commission suggestion, so that it could, with some modifications, be accepted.
