Talking to reporters on Saturday, the Prime Minister lauded the role of the Bangladesh police saying ``they have done a good job. There has been no backlash in Bangladesh following violence in Gujarat''. ``The minorities here are safe because of our timely action.'' Later, inaugurating the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) week, 2002, Begum Zia paid respects to the BDR jawans who laid down their lives in clashes with the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) early last year. She said the "nation felt proud of the courage and heroism demonstrated by the members of the BDR.'' The Foreign Minister, M. Morshed Khan, who was present at the news conference, denied that the Government had taken `a hard line' in regard to its relations with India. ``We want excellent relations with India. We want to remove all impediments and irritants in the way of consolidating bilateral ties'', he said.
