KOLKATA, MARCH 10. Former Test player Yashpal Sharma has been appointed coach for the India `A' team to tour South Africa later this month. Having announced the 15-member squad - led by Dinesh Mongia - earlier, the coach was decided at the Board of Control for Cricket in India meeting here on Saturday. The BCCI secretary, Niranjan Shah, said Sharma would oversee the team's fortunes in the month-long tour that will have the Indian side playing against the South African `A' team and also a few of the Provincial sides. In another significant decision, the BCCI technical committee agreed to keep the pitches of the Duleep Trophy venues uncovered before and after each day's play. This step was taken with an idea of providing lively tracks for domestic tournaments. The BCCI secretary said with the wickets remaining uncovered, the bowlers could exploit the morning conditions. Mr. Shah added that the decision could not be extended to Ranji Trophy matches as part of the tournament is played during the monsoons. The meeting also decided to have the National Cricket Academy director Brijesh Patel represent India at the International Cricket Council's cricket committee meeting at Cape Town, South Africa scheduled to be held on March 17 and 18. - Our Sports Reporter
