Jaidee to skip Indian Open

NEW DELHI, MARCH 12. Thongchai Jaidee will not be there to defend his Indian Open title. The Thai has preferred the $1.7 million Qatar Masters that will be played in Doha on the same dates as the Royal Challenge Open at the Delhi Golf Club course, March 14 to 17.

Missing also would be three of the top Indian stars, Chiranjeev Milkha Singh, Arjun Atwal and Jyoti Randhawa. Chiranjeev and Atwal would be playing in Doha, while Randhawa is nursing an injury sustained in an accident.

The field has surely lost a lot of its sheen, but many of the regulars will be there in the $3,00,000 tournament. Six of the top 10 on the Asian PGA Tour's Order of Merit figure in the list of players released on Tuesday. They include Harmeet Kahlon, the winner of the Hero Honda Masters, who is at No. 4, and Canadian Rick Gibson, winner of the Philippines Open last Sunday and a man making a comeback on the APGA Tour.

players are in the fray. They include two-time Indian Open winner Ali Sher, the 1998 winner Feroz Ali, Gaurav Ghei, Mukesh Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Uttam Singh Mundy, Arjun Singh, Vivek Bhandari, Amandeep Johl, Shiv Prakash, Sanjay Kumar and Rohtas Singh.

The following are some of the prominent foreign players who have entered: Prayad Marksaeng (Tha), Andrew Pitts (US), Rick Gibson (Can), Thaworn Wiratchant (Tha), Anthony Kang (Kor), Gerry Norquist (US), Boonchu Ruangkit (Tha), Craig Kamps (RSA), Chris Williams (RSA), Mike Cunning (US), Kyi Hla-Han (Myr), Gerald Rosales (Phi), Felix Casas (Phi), Simon Yates (Sco), Greg Hanrahan (US) and Thammanoon Sriroj (Tha).
