By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD MARCH 12. Pakistan and China have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on military cooperation and collaboration in the defence production sectors.

The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry of Defence when a Chinese delegation, led by the Deputy Chief of General Staff, Xiong Guangkai, visited the Ministry. The delegation also met the Secretary Defence, Hamid Nawaz Khan. Details of the MoU have not made been public.

An official statement said that both sides discussed the on-going defence cooperation between the two countries and hoped that the cooperation would progress further.

The current regional situation also came under discussion during the meeting. The Chinese dignitary appreciated Pakistan's support in the international efforts towards elimination of terrorism and peace in Afghanistan and the stand taken by the Pakistan President, Pervez Musharraf, in the context of the political situation in the sub-continent.

Later, Gen. Xiong called on the Secretary Defence Production Division, Zahid Anis.
