PM has 'deceived' Hindus

ALLAHABAD MARCH 15. The Sankaracharya of Jyotish Peet, Basudevanand Saraswati, today said the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, has ``deceived'' the entire Hindu community on the Ayodhya issue.

He urged the Centre ``remove all the hurdles in the way of temple construction by June 2'' and find an early solution to the issue.

Talking to reporters here, the Sankaracharya said allowing the dispute to linger was neither in the interest of the people nor the country. ``Till this dispute exists, communal tension will continue and the differences between Hindus and Muslims will increase.'' The acharya urged the Muslims ``to honour the sentiments of the Hindus and withdraw their claim on the Ram janmabhoomito pave the way for a smooth hand over of the land for the construction of a Ram temple.''
