THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 15. The Assembly adjourned sine die on Friday, at the conclusion of one of the shortest budget sessions in the history of the House. Though the House was to meet again in April after a short break, that was cancelled on the ground that the Government had no business to transact. The session had begun on March 1 with the address of the Governor amidst protest by the Opposition. The Opposition boycotted the three days discussion on the motion of thanks to the Governor for his address, demanding settlement of the strike by Government employees and teachers. Even after settlement of the strike, the proceedings were not smooth. The Opposition either walked out or boycotted part of the sittings on a daily basis. The budget was presented to the House on March 8. The general discussion on the budget, which usually lasts three days, was cut short to two. A vote-on-account for the first four months of the financial year was passed on Thursday.
