Case filed against Vinay Katiyar

By Shujaat Bukhari

JAMMU MARCH 16. The District Judge (Special), Srinagar, today accepted a complaint filed by a senior Supreme Court lawyer, Muzaffar Hussain Beig, journalist, Imdad Saqi, and the Kashmir Bar Association against the BJP MP, Vinay Katiyar, for his alleged remarks against the holy relic at the Hazratbal shrine.

After the District Magistrate, Srinagar, gave permission to proceed against Mr. Katiyar, the complaint was filed before the District Judge, who announced that he would pass an order on Monday.

The complainants stated that the reported statement of Mr. Katiyar was "politically motivated and a sinister attempt to extend the grasp of the evil arms of the fascist and communal monster to the Valley". They sought judicial intervention to curb the menace and initiate criminal proceedings against Mr. Katiyar.

The Editor of Asian Age, M.J. Akbar, the grand Mufti of Kashmir, Bashiruddin, and the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Parvez Dewan, have been listed among the witnesses in the case.
