Letters to the Editor
Sir, This is to express my outrage at Afshaan Adeeb's suggestion in `Don't ask the C.M.' (March 15) that it was the behaviour of the kar sevaks that triggered the barbaric attack on the Sabarmati Express. How is this any different from Narendra Modi's action and reaction theory? It is clear that there can be no excuse or justification for what happened at Godhra. Godhra and its aftermath was the handiwork of identically savage and dark minds and to try and find excuses for one while condemning the other betrays the double-standards that plague Muslim attitudes and provoke anger and resentment amongst even non-fanatic Hindus. While there is no doubt that the obscurantist goons and psychopaths of the Sangh Parivar have made being a Muslim in India an increasingly high-risk option, the same type of people amongst Muslims have made their own contribution to this state of affairs. Hashim N. Tyabji, Hyderabad
