The winners took home Rs. 30,000, while Agarwal's team, consisting of A.K. Sharan, K. Singh, A. Kumar and A.K. Agarwal, became richer by Rs. 15,000. The 36 board final match was played in 3 segments of 12 boards each. In the first session Agarwal's team took a lead of 11 IMPs (36-25). DSM made up 5 IMPs (36-31) in the second session and it would have scored more but for a board in which it gave a penalty of 800 which cost the team 12 IMPs. In the third and the final session Agarwal's team squandered away as many as 66 IMPs (3-69) and DSM retired as easy winners. The losing semifinalists _ Pataliputra and G. Kumar received Rs. 3,600 each, while the four losing quarterfinalists _ Boat House Club `A' , Jain's Team (Meerut), Prahladka (Raipur) and I.K. Kejriwal (Calcutta) got Rs. 1800 each. In the Board A Match event, I.K. Kejriwal from Calcutta consisting of S.N. Kejriwal, Prabir Pant, Kajal Das, P. Bardhan, S.N. Siskar and Badal Das won the event with a score of 84 points. Dhampur Sugar Mill was runner-up with 74 points while Jain's Team (Meerut) was placed third with 73 points.
