Sandeep shows he is the 'Master'

BANGALORE, MARCH 17. Major Sandeep Dewan and his steed Master emerged victorious in the NEC show jumping puissance advance event on the final day of the National Equestrian championship at the Agram ground here on Sunday. The puissance which tests the ability of the rider and the horse to jump barriers in increasing heights was an enthralling event keenly contested by the army riders.

The competitors all progressed as the barrier on `the wall' kept increasing in height. Sajjan Kumar started badly going slam bang into `the wall' but did well to calm his horse and clear it in the second attempt. Ajay Duggal attempting `the wall' at 1.55m clipped the horizontal and was almost unbalanced but regained his seat extremely well.

When all three had cleared 1.60 metres the contest was truly on. Duggal and Chenab were unlucky to drop a section of the wall and Sajjan Kumar too was unable to clear the height.

The Governor of Karnataka Smt Rama Devi was the chief guest at the closing ceremony and gave away the prizes. Lt Gen Jagadish Chander and his soldiers of the ASC Centre and College did an excellent job of conducting the National Equestrian Championship.

Dressage Novice Test B: 1. Capt Navjyot Sandhu (Pasha), 2. Rfn Lakhbir Singh (Red Rum), 3. Dexter Cutinha (Amazer) ECE.

Team Tent Pegging: 1. Haryana Police `A' 79.5 Pts, 2. ASC & C 77 pts, 3. ASC (North) 76.

Six Bar Jumping: 1. J.P Masih (Mustmala) Remount Veterinary Corps, 2. Sandeep Dewan (Toofan), Bhoom Singh (Mastana) 61st Cav and Maribasetti ( CJ -15) all tied for second place.

Puissance Advance Grade: 1. Sandeep Dewan (Master), 2. Maj Ajay Duggal (Chenab) (ASC & C) and Dfr Sajjan Kumar (Titan) Presidents Body Guard (tied for second place).

Show Jumping (Normal): 1. Ct Radhey Shyam (Anuraag) Delhi Police, 2. Ct Dharampal Singh (Paramveer) DP, 3. Nb /Sub Satvir Singh (Raftar),ASC (North) and Radhey Shyam (Tarzan) tied for third place.

Army Horse Show: Show Jumping Sub Junior (Normal): 1. Nadia Haridas (Murphy) EIRS, 2. N Abhiram ( Archieues) BARI, 3. Nidhi Dev ( Time For Change) ECE; Hacks Open: 1. Neville Bharucha ( Jonty's Pal) RWITC, 2. Judi Bidappa (Slash) EIRS, 3. C.K Somanna (Murphy) Nanoli Stud Farm.
