A veiled threat

Sir, — The RSS seems to be free with their advice to Muslims (March 18), asking the Muslims to win the goodwill of the majority in order to feel safe in the country. One thought that the safety of all citizens was guaranteed by the Government and no one had to satisfy any group for safety. The RSS has, in fact, issued a veiled threat to Muslims, saying that if they do not do the bidding of the majority community, they will come to harm. They say that Muslims are not obeying the laws of the country, but a vast majority of them are law-abiding citizens.

The recent statements by several Hindu leaders to ignore the ruling of the Supreme Court as well as the events in Ayodhya 10 years ago would indicate that the advice to be lawful should be directed to both communities.

Ghulam Faruki,

New York (U.S.)
