Sekhon quits
By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MARCH 19. Air Marshal Manjit Singh Sekhon today resigned, for reportedly seeking political favour.

Air Marshal Sekhon, fourth seniormost IAF officer, was immediately removed from his post as Chief of the Southern Air Command, following the disclosure of a letter written by him to the former Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal, seeking his intervention, for promotion to the coveted post of Western Air Command Chief.

Air Marshal Sekhon was immediately attached to the Air Headquarters and asked to put in his papers. However, he wrote a letter to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal S. Krishnaswamy, pointing out that his seeking of political benediction was not an isolated incident.

In Air Marshal Sekhon's case, a demi-official letter was found in the files of Mr. Badal.
