THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MARCH 20. The National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) has allocated nearly Rs. 25 crores for the development of the fisheries sector in the State, the Fisheries Minister, K.V. Thomas, said in an official release here today. The Minister and Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, had earlier held discussions with the NCDC authorities in New Delhi, seeking assistance for the welfare of the fishermen. According to the project report submitted to the NCDC by Matsyafed, the allocated amount is to be used for giving assistance to fishermen for buying fishing gear, for marketing fish, construction of office buildings and godowns by primary cooperatives, computerisation and extension work. With the contribution of the State Government for the project, the total outlay would be more than Rs. 27 crores, Prof. Thomas said.
