Narrow win for Salgaocar

MARGAO MARCH 23. Arlem-sponsored Vasco Sports Club's hope of title contention received a jolt when it went down to another top contender Salgaocar Sports Club by 2-3 after leading 1-0 at the breather in the 18th round of the Tata National Football league match being played here at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda today. For winner, the goals came through Alvito D'Cunha's brace in the 28th and in the 74th minute and substitute Bruno Cutinho in the 86th minute. Vasco Sports Club reduced the margin through Rui Wanderly Weiz in the 85th and Marcos Pereira in the 87th minute. With this win, Salgaocar, which was on the fourth place, came on par with table toppers Zee Churchill and Kolkata's Mohan Bagan with 32 points and finished second above Bagan with a better goal difference, relegating Vasco Sports Club to fourth place. This is Vasco's second defeat in a row and it remains on same 31 points from equal number of outings.
