BOXING: MEMPHIS: Hopes dimmed for a heavyweight boxing showdown between British champion Lennox Lewis and ex-champion Mike Tyson as negotiation issues arose with a Monday deadline looming to seal the deal. Tyson manager Shelly Finkel and Gary Shaw, Lewis' promoter, called off a scheduled visit here on Friday in the wake of questions about a promised $12.5 million site fee for staging the planned June 8 bout here. Mike Lampley of Prize Fight Boxing, the promotion group backing the Memphis bid, said trouble arose in obtaining a letter of credit, the money guarantee that was Memphis' major lure to host what could be the richest bout in boxing history, more than $ 100 million in revenue. CRICKET: PORT OF SPAIN: Blunders in the field and running between the wickets have affected the overall performance of the West Indies cricket team in series at home and abroad, Coach Roger Harper has claimed. Commenting on the start of a week-long training camp here in preparation for the series against India next month, Harper stressed: ``We must improve in every aspect of the game. We will be working on the basics and try to get it right. I want all the (22) players to be totally focused on the approach we plan for the home series against India because we want to be competitive and successful against them,'' said Harper on Friday. The former Guyanese and West Indies all-rounder said Gary Sobers' role during the camp would be to help everyone in the team, particularly with their batting. Former fast bowler Andy Roberts is also sharing his experience and knowledge with the players. FOOTBALL: NYON (Switzerland): European soccer's governing body UEFA imposed a one-match stadium ban on AS Roma and suspended its coach and three players for trouble which erupted at the end of its champions league match against Galatasaray. UEFA's control and disciplinary commission fined the Turkish side 40,000 swiss francs ($24,200). Roma head coach Fabio Capello was suspended from the touch line for one match. Players Francisco lima and Francesco Totti were banned for three matches each, and Gabriel Batistuta received a one-match suspension. LONDON: A depiction of the dramatic, last-minute David Beckham free kick that put England into the World cup finals went on show at madame Tussaud's wax museum on Friday. With time running out and England trailing 1-2 to Greece at Old Trafford, Beckham curled a 20-yard free kick into the net to start national celebrations. The point earned from the 2-2 tie meant England had edged Germany for top spot in the group and an automatic place among the 32 finalists. Waxworks of the England captain and team coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, each costing 40,000 pounds ($64,000) to make, went on show at the world famous waxworks and scores of youngsters lined up to see it for the first time. GOLF: PONTE VEDRA BEACH (Florida): Defending champion Tiger Woods fired a second-round par 72 at the PGA tournament players championship here on Friday struggling mentally and physically with a swirling wind. Woods took a bogey on the 18th hole to settle for a one-under par 143 after 36 holes on a difficult day for all golfers at the $ six million event, which features on island green at the par-3 17th hole. ``It's playing so difficult right now,'' Woods said. Phil Mickelson, who seized the lead by completing a first-round 64 on Friday morning, ballooned to a 75 in the second round. MOTOR RACING: BARCELONA: Brazil's Rubens Barrichello and German world champion Michael Schumacher took Ferrari to the top of the time charts for the second day in succession as a week of Formula One testing ended here on Friday. However, despite the fastest times on the track, the Italian team is in no hurry to make a decision on whether or not to take its new F2002 car to Brazil for the next Grand Prix at Interlagos on March 31. Test times: Rubens Barrichello (Bra) Ferrari 1 minute, 18.256 seconds (43 laps), Michael Schumacher (Ger) Ferrari 1:18.747 (85), Olivier Panis (Fra) Bar 1:19.452 (74), Alexander Wurz (Aut) McLaren-Mercedes 1:19.738 (49), David Coulthard (Gbr) McLaren-Mercedes 1:19.829 (52), Luca Badoer (Ita) Ferrari 1:19.838 (36), Pedro De La Rosa (Spa) Jaguar 1:19.842 (51), Marc Gene (Spa) Williams-BMW 1:19.871 (131), Ralf Schumacher (Ger) Williams 1:19.872 (102). TENNIS: KEY BISCAYNE (Florida): The WTA Tour voted to move its season-ending championship to Staples Center in Los Angeles after just one year in Munich, Germany. The $ 3 million event will be the first tennis tournament at Staples Center, which opened in October 1999. The final will likely be the first weekend in November. The tournament moved to Germany last year after being played at Madison Square Garden in New York since 1972, but attendance was disappointing. The 16-player, six-day event drew 36,500 fans in Munich, compared with 94,133 the final year in New York. Nine- time Grand Slam champion Monica Seles' refusal to play in Germany, where she was stabbed during a match in 1993, may have also been a factor in the decision.
