Opinion - Letters to the Editor

No right to question

Sir, — While the attack on the Orissa Assembly by Sangh Parivar activists deserves the strongest condemnation, does any political party in this country have the right to speak about the sanctity of parliamentary institutions such as the State Assemblies, the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha? Have not the parties, including the more-than-a-century old Congress, and the BJP, committed sacrilege of these institutions by behaving in the most indecent manner inside the august chambers, throwing all rules and decorum to the winds and making a mockery of the Constitution?

When they behave in such an unruly manner inside the House, how can they expect others to observe discipline? And condemn the Bajrang Dal and the like for storming the Assembly?

K.R.V. Nair,
Thiruvananthapuram
