Aamir puts up a brave face

Los Angeles March 25. In true sportsman spirit, Aamir Khan, captain of the `Lagaan XI', today said that his film lost out in the foreign category at the Oscars "probably due to the topicality of the winner — Bosnia's No Man's Land — which speaks of futility of war".

"No Man's Land is based on a topic which is very sensitive in the present context. It's about war between two communities and two countries. This factor may have weighed on the minds of the judges, which also should be taken into account," he told the news channel, `Aaj Tak', here.

"All the five films which reached the top were equally good and No Man's Land is an excellent movie. We should applaud it," the actor-producer of Lagaan said. Asked if the song-and-dance sequences were a drawback for the film, Mr. Khan said he didn't think so. "Many members told us after the awards ceremony that Lagaan was the best film for them and that they had liked the songs."
