PM's proposed visit to Kashmir hailed

By Our Correspondent

JAMMU MARCH 25 . The former chairman of the Hurriyat Conference, Umar Farooq, has welcomed the Prime Minister's proposed visit to the Valley and asked him to take "sincere and bold" steps for bringing normality to the State.

Talking to The Hindu, Mirwaiz Farooq said, "I welcome the Prime Minster's announcement that he will come to the State and see for himself the ground realities prevailing here.

At the same time the visit of the Prime Minister carries little importance if it turns out to be a symbolic activity."

"Mr. Vajpayee should come up with a clear decision on what he is going to do in the State. I do not know how much can be achieved in one visit, but at the same time an effort can be made towards initiation of some kind of process toward solving the problem," he added.
