JAIPUR, MARCH 25. Two persons were killed and several injured today at Gangapur in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, 150 km. from here, when police opened fire on a mob blocking a road where a Muharram procession was to pass through. An indefinite curfew was clamped in Gangapur following the clash. While the procession marking Yaum-e-Ashura the tenth day of the Muharram month was to be taken out on the city roads, a 500-strong mob gathered at Balaji Chowk and announced holding of a yagna blocking the procession's route. Police resorted to lathi-charge and tear-gas, followed by firing of rubber bullets. However when the mob pelted stones and indulged in arson, they opened fire killing one person on the spot and injuring several. Another person died while being taken to hospital. Four others were admitted in a serious condition to Sawai Man Singh Hospital here in the evening. A large number of people were injured in the stampede that followed the firing. Police reinforcements were sent to bring situation under control.
