COLOMBO, MARCH 27. The Sri Lankan Government says it expects the long-awaited peace talks with the LTTE to begin in May this year. The Cabinet spokesman and senior Minister, G. L. Peiris, said today that the two sides had decided to hold direct discussions "with minimum delay''. ``We expect the talks to start in the first week of May,'' Mr. Peiris said. It would be the first time the two sides will meet face-to-face at the negotiating table since 1995.
