Letters to the Editor
Sir, On reading through ``A letter to chachaji'' (March 26), my memory went back to the year 1967. When C. N. Annadurai formed the Government in Tamil Nadu without much fanfare and publicity, he sent a circular to all the Government offices saying pictures of Gods displayed in the offices be removed. This instruction was meant to keep the offices secular and avert religious discontent that was spreading among Government servants. Unfortunately, subsequent Governments allowed the instruction to suffer a natural death. Both the Centre and the State Governments should keep themselves off all religions. This will go a long way in bringing about amity among various religions.
A. O. Balasundaram,
