President's nod for eight Bills

New Delhi April 1. The President, K. R .Narayanan, today gave his assent to eight Bills, including five Acts relating to passage of vote on account for Indian Railways and the general budget for the first four months of 2002-2003.

The President gave his assent to the five acts pending their final passage in the second part of the current Budget Session of Parliament.

The President also gave his assent to a Bill providing for additional cess on jute manufactures for the revival of the industry and to provide a boost to it.

Approval was also given to the Uttar Pradesh Appropriation (vote on account) Act, approving the vote on account for a period of four months for the State which is now under Central Rule. — PTI
