Sir, The killings, carried out at the Raghunath Temple in Jammu _ and claimed by a terrorist organisation to "avenge the harassment of Muslims in India" _ can in no way ease the plight of the victims of the Gujarat violence. The attack is yet another in a series of hateful, divisive acts carried out in the name of religion by those who have neither religion nor humanity. When fundamentalists of a religion attack innocent members of another, all they end up doing is give an excuse to the extremists of the other community to `avenge' the killings. In this way an endless cycle of death and destruction is played out, where the fundamentalists of both communities are the winners and the ordinary citizen, Hindu or Muslim, is the loser. We must resist all divisive propaganda, maintain unity and uphold the values of our secular democracy.
