Advani urged to prevent deportation

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, APRIL 2. The All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA) today urged the Union Home Minister, L.K. Advani, to prevent the deportation of Dalal Azmi _ the Kuwaiti woman who was arrested in Chennai for not possessing valid papers _ and legalise her stay in India.

While acknowledging the gravity of the offence Ms. Azmi committed by entering India without valid documents, the AIDWA _ in a letter to Mr. Advani _ said she had no future in Kuwait as what awaited her there was a death sentence for being pregnant before marriage. Stating that Ms. Azmi's case was a "genuine" one, the AIDWA has urged the Home Minister to secure her release from jail and permit her to marry the man she's involved with, Khadir Basha, an Indian citizen from Andhra Pradesh.
