While granting the five-day limited purpose remand, Mr. Sharma observed that a perusal of the case diary showed that Mr. Malik was being treated in the police hospital and the doctors had advised that he be shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, Jammu, for proper treatment. He should be produced before the court as and when there was improvement in his health, the magistrate said. Sources say that Mr. Malik continues to be on hunger strike. Meanwhile, the J&K High Court has directed the State Government to constitute a medical board to examine Mr. Malik afresh and submit the report to the court in a sealed cover. The direction was passed on a petition filed by the Hurriyat leader, Abdul Gani Lone, about the alleged "inhuman treatment" meted out to Mr. Malik in police custody. The Court observed that the detenu should be provided with the facilities available to him under the law and he should not be subjected to any violence.
