Sack Modi Govt., says NCP

NEW DELHI APRIL 3. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today demanded the immediate dismissal of the Gujarat Government and a CBI probe into the communal flare-up in the State in view of the adverse remarks made by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against the State's handling of the situation.

The observations made by the NHRC against the State Government for its ``failure'' to handle the situation has put the Government in the dock, the NCP general secretary, Tariq Anwar, said in a release here.

Terming as ``juvenile'' the Gujarat Chief Minister, Narendra Modi's claim that violent incidents in the State had been contained within 72 hours of their occurence, Mr. Anwar said violence was still continuing. The commission had expressed its concern over the ``attitude of neglect'' displayed by the Government towards several aspects of the Constitution and human rights.

The NHRC, he said, had described as correct the questioning of the credibility of the FIRs filed by the aggrieved minority and urged the Centre to institute a CBI probe into certain massacres perpetrated in some areas of Gujarat. — UNI
