Electoral college for Presidential elections

NEW DELHI APRIL 7. The electoral college for the election of the next President, expected to be held in July, has been finalised.

The term of office of the present incumbent, K.R. Narayanan, ends on July 24.

The programme for the election is likely to be announced in May, Election Commission sources said.

The electoral college consists of the members of the Lok Sabha, the Rajya Sabha and the State Legislative Assemblies. Each member's value of vote will be based on the 1971 census.

The value of vote for all the States, including the newly-created Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Uttaranchal, and Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar, after their bifurcation, have been done.
