Fined for contempt of court

HYDERABAD APRIL 8. Justice B. Prakash Rao of the A.P. High Court on Monday punished Subba Rao, Special Collector, Srisailam Project, and Lal Singh, Special Deputy Collector, Gadwal, Mahabubnagar district, for contempt of court and imposed a fine of Rs.5,000/- each upon them.

The order was passed in the case filed by Venkat Reddy and others. The petitioners were alleging that their lands were taken away for Priyadarshini Jurala Project in 1992. The respondent contemnors did not pay compensation for the structures upon the lands though the Revenue Divisional Officer concerned gave a favourable report. The judge did not appreciate the inaction on the part of the respondents.

The court pulled up Chakrapani, Secretary, Irrigation Department, and let him off after a stern warning in this case.
