Bone found in Silent Valley

By Our Staff Reporter

DINDIGUL APRIL 8. A special search team today found a piece of leg bone from a 3500-foot deep gorge in the Silent Valley and quit the search operation half way owing to inclement weather and poor light at Kodaikanal here today.

The Kodaikanal DSP, V. Sankarakrishnan, said the search operation would continue tomorrow as the Chennai police could not come to any conclusion with this piece of bone.

Earlier, the special team led by the Inspector, Khadher Mohideen, attached to the Anna Nagar Police station in Chennai, came to Kodaikanal yesterday with the accused to find out the body of D. Jayakumar, 36, an associate of the former DMK MLA, M.K. Balan, from the Silent Valley.

The Chennai police searched for the body at Kodaikanal on the basis of a confessional statement by Samikannu, one of the three accused, that they had attacked Jayakumar with a wooden pole, slit his throat and threw the body into the Silent Valley.
