Youth arrested for cyber crime

NEW DELHI APRIL 11. In an interesting case of cyber crime, the CBI has arrested from Asansol, West Bengal, a 23-year-old unemployed graduate of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Mohammad Firoz, who was allegedly running a lucrative job placement racket.

The CBI had received two separate complaints through e-mail alleging that Mohammad Firoz had informed them through e-mail that they had been selected for the posts of Network Administrator and Programmer without any formal interview in a German company called DIS-AG Personalvermittlung for posting in Germany.

The company is reportedly one of the largest manufacturing and exporting company engaged in cosmetics, drugs and toiletries. The complainants were asked to pay Rs.10,000 and Rs. 40,000 respectively in ICICI bank account number — 000701027838. They were asked to come to New Delhi for further interview for visa at German Embassy, to collect their visas and contract paper from the company's representative. On inquiring from the German Embassy, they were told that there were no interviews going.

Extensive field investigation by the Cyber Crime Cell of the CBI revealed that Firoz had been living in Harinagar Ashram in west Delhi till about a year ago and had cheated other persons also by alluring them with promises of handsome jobs. He was ultimately traced to Asansol and searches at his residence resulted in seizure of documents, visiting cards in his name of the German company which he used to scan and attach with the e-mails to the victims.
