Circle Inspector, 5 policemen arrested

By Our Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR APRIL 11. Six policemen, including a Circle Inspector, were arrested after they surreptitiously buried the body of a suspect who committed suicide in their custody in Thoguta police station of Medak district.

According to the police, the Thoguta police summoned Pandi Yadagiri of Venkatraopet village on Friday last while investigating a case of suspicious death. Yadagiri, who was apparently detained in the station, had hanged himself in the bathroom of the station.

Panicked over the custodial death, the policemen clandestinely moved the body to Turka Banjarapally village and buried it there. Later, they informed Yadagiri's parents on Tuesday that he had run away from the police station when he was taken out for answering a nature's call.

When Yadagiri did not return home, his parents lodged a case of man missing with the same Thoguta police station and a case was duly registered. However, the truth came out when the Siddipet DSP, T. Prakash Reddy, suspected a foul play in the man missing case and ordered an inquiry.

On examining the Thoguta Circle Inspector, P. Madhukar Swamy, SI Md. Kareemulla and constables Shankar, Bhoomi Reddy, Bhoomaiah and Sangappa, the police officers came to know about the custodial death and how the station staff had disposed of the body.

Subsequently, a case of abetment to commit suicide (section 306 of the IPC) and attempt to obliterate material evidences in a criminal case (section 201 of IPC) was registered and all the six policemen were arrested, the Medak Additional SP, Charu Sinha, said in a press release. The suicide of Yadagiri in Thoguta police station occurred a day after a daily wage earner hanged himself when he was beaten up by policemen guarding a repeater station in Ramayampet town of Medak district.
